OWENSBORO, Ky. -- Women's volleyball (0-5, 0-0 GLVC) lost in heartbreaker to Arkansas-Fort Smith (5-2, 0-0 MIAA) in the first game of the Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational Friday evening.
The Bearcats started off hot capturing the first set by a score of 25-12. The Lions would end up bouncing back, winning the next two sets. However, McKendree didn't give up winning the fourth set to force the fifth. Unfortunately, Arkansas-Fort Smith would take the final set to steal the win away.
In the match, the team had a better offensive efficiency output, hitting just above 200 as a team. McKendree ended the match leading in multiple categories. The Bearcats had the higher total in points (69), assists (55), and kills (58).
Freshman Resse Distler had a career high in kills with 15 with sophomore Madelyn Clarke right behind her with 14. Setting them up was sophomore Peyton Uptgraft who had 24 assists in the game. Behind her was junior Madison Wojdyla with 16 assists. Defensively, Distler, sophomore Corrine Leech and junior Paige Parant all notched double digit digs with 17, 16 and 12 respectively. Junior Avery Guisinger led the way defending the net with three blocks.
McKendree looks to bounce back with a doubleheader against Kentucky Wesleyan College and Davis & Elkins. The games are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the Woodward Health and Recreation Center.
