OWENSBORO, Ky. -- Women's volleyball (2-5, 0-0 GLVC) defeated Kentucky Wesleyan College (3-4, 0-0 GMAC) and Davis & Elkins College (0-8, 0-0 MEC) on the final day of the Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational Saturday.
Game One | McKendree 3, Kentucky Wesleyan College 0 (25-21, 25-18, 27-25)
McKendree started out the day with a sweep over host Kentucky Wesleyan College. The team dominated the Panthers in almost every category of the match. The Bearcats led in points (58), kills (42), assists (40), digs (34), and blocks (eight).
Individually, freshman Reece Distler led the team in kills earning 14. Sophomore Madelyn Clarke, redshirt freshmen Brooke Heimburger and junior Avery Guisinger all notched over five kills to add to the team total. Leading the assists category was junior Madison Wojdyla with 18, sophomore Peyton Uptgraft was closely behind her with 16. Defensively, five different Bearcats had five or more with junior Paige Parant leading the team with nine. Freshman Ilana Reeder was great on the net, blocking five attack attempts; Clarke was also a force on the net blocking three attempts.
Game Two | McKendree 3, Davis & Elkins College 1 (21-25, 25-9, 25-11, 25-19)
The Bearcats carried that momentum into the second game of the day, dominating the Senators in the last three sets. Defense really shined, causing a -2.6 hitting percentage and 32 attacking errors. Offensively for McKendree Clarke, Heimburger and Distler all secured over double digit kills to lead the team on the attack. Uptgraft had a season high in assists with 26 in the match. Wojdyla also had 16 assists to add to the team total, and four service aces to lead the team. Distler led the team in digs with 16, the libero duo of sophomores Bianaca Galaviz and Corrine Leech were closely behind her each with double digit digs 14 and 10 respectively.
McKendree will be back on the road next weekend to compete in the Griffon Invitational hosted by Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri. They will face Arkansas Tech University on Friday at 3:00 p.m. Then a doubleheader on Saturday going against Central Missouri and Missouri Western with games being at 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. All games will be played at MWSU Fieldhouse.
