(LEBANON, Ill., November 2)- Senior defender
Steven Axe (Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, Paul Dwyer Catholic) of the McKendree University men's soccer team was honored on November 2nd for his achievements both on the field and in the classroom when the 2010 ESPN Academic All-District V College Division men's soccer team was released. The team was voted on and selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Axe was named to the ESPN Academic All-District V College Division Second Team and carries a 3.93 GPA in Sociology. He has started in 16 games this season and has scored three goals, including one game-winning goal, and has helped lead a defense that is ranked in the top 25 in the NAIA in goals allowed with 14.
The ESPN Academic All-District V College Teams consist of players from NCAA Division II and II and NAIA schools in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ontario and Manitoba. Eligible student-athletes are nominated by their school's sports information director and must have at least a 3.30 grade point average and be in their sophomore, junior, or senior years. Members of the ESPN Academic All-District V First Team are then eligible for Academic All-America consideration.
The McKendree University men's soccer team recently finished the regular season with an overall record of 12-3-3 and a 5-1-1 record in the American Midwest Conference. The Bearcats earned the No. 2 seed in the AMC tournament and will host a semifinal game on Monday, November 8th at 7 p.m., against an opponent to be determined.
