McKENDREE MEN'S SOCCER TEAM DEFEATS INDIANA TECH, 9-2, IMPROVE TO 14-0 OVERALL

Grant recorded the hat trick in the win and elads the Bearcats with 17 goals this season
Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., October 15)- Freshman forward Anthony Grant had three goals and senior midfielder Tom Ward (Frodhsam, England/) had three assists in a 9-2 victory of Indiana Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon.

The Bearcats improved to 14-0 and will host Hannibal-LaGrange University on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Grant's three goals gives him 17 on the season and ties him with Francisco Mosca (2000) and Joe McClary (2004) for third place all-time in school history for goals in a single season. Ward's 11 assists this season is tied for third all-time at McKendree with Jason Bode (1995) and Scott Siegel (1993) in single season assists.

McKendree had the wind at its back and used it in the first half to take a 4-1 lead into halftime. Grant scored the first of his three goals in the 12th minute on an assist by senior defender Sam James (Southampton. England/Tauntons). In the 16th minute, James scored off Ward's first assist of the day, and Ward put the Bearcats in front 3-0 off an assist by senior defender Aaron Streid (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) in the 20th minute. The Warriors got on the board in the 22nd minute on a goal by Sam Terman, but Grant struck again in the 27th minute off an assist by Ward to give McKendree the lead by three heading into the half.

The Bearcats defied nature in the second half and scored five goals while heading into a stiff wind. Jammar Allison cut Indiana Tech's deficit in half in the 50th minute with a goal, but it would be the last one given up by McKendree on the day. James scored his second goal of the game in the 61st minute unassisted to score the first of what would be five unanswered goals by the Bearcats. Freshman forward C.J. Cerna (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville) put McKendree in front 6-2 in the 70th minute off Ward's third and final assist of the afternoon, and Grant followed with his third goal of the day off an assist by senior midfielder Kameron Young (Mascoutah, Ill./Mascoutah). Junior midfielder Nick Watt (Glasgow, Scotland/Shawlands) scored the final two goals for the Bearcats, the first on a penalty kick and the second off an assist by sophomore forward R.B. Beekley (St. Peters, Mo./St. Charles West), to give McKendree the 9-2 victory.

Senior goalkeeper Joe Sagar (Oldham, England/Hulme) remained perfect in goal this season, improving to 14-0, and recording four saves in the win.
