McKENDREE MEN'S SOCCER TEAM BOUNCES BACK WITH 5-2 WIN ON SENIOR NIGHT OVER MISSOURI BAPTIST

Box Score

(LEBANON, Ill., October 20)- The McKendree University men's soccer team bounced back from its first loss of the season earlier in the week to defeat Missouri Baptist University 5-2 on Thursday night.

The Bearcats improved to 15-1 overall and will host Davenport University (Mich.) on Sunday, October 23rd at 1 p.m.

Freshman forward Anthony Grant scored the first of his three goals on Thursday night in the third minute unassisted to put McKendree in front 1-0 early. Grant struck again in the 27th minute off a pass from senior midfielder Tom Ward (Frodhsam, England/) to take a 2-0 lead, but the Spartans cut the deficit in half, 2-1, in the 40th minute on a goal by Danny Traylor, but junior forward Mike Williams (Headcorn, England/Norton Knatchbull) scored unassisted in the 43rd minute to give McKendree a 3-1 lead at the half.

Ward scored unassisted 46 seconds into the second half to take a 4-1 lead and would later assist on Grant's third goal of the game, and his 21st of the season, in the 52nd minute to extend the lead to 5-1. Grant's 21 goals this season is one shy of tying Franciso Mosca for the McKendree record for goals in a single season.

Oscar Rojas scored off a pass from Traylor in the 82nd minute, but it had little consequence for the Bearcats in the 5-2 win.

Redshirt junior Tim Day (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) improved to 1-0 overall this season and had two saves in the win.
