Box Score

(LEBANON, Ill., October 23)- McKendree University freshman forward Anthony Grant and senior midfielder Tom Ward (Frodhsam, England/) closed out the men's soccer home-slate with an exclamation point on Sunday by setting new single season school records in a 5-1 win over Davenport University (Mich.). The win also ties the school record of 16 victories in a single season set in 2005 and 2007.

Grant tied the McKendree single season goal record with his 22nd goal in the 43rd minute, and then set a new standard in the 76th minute with his 23rd goal this season. Grant's two goals also helped him set a new single season school record with 51 points. Francisco Mosca previously set both records during his senior season in 2002.

Ward entered the game tied with Matt Craig's single season mark of 13 assists set in 1995, and set the new school standard with an assist in the 79th minute.

Despite all the record setting performances, McKendree found themselves trailing 1-0 in the 32nd minute after a goal was scored by Davenport's Gerard John-Williams. Junior forward Mike Williams (Headcorn, England/Norton Knatchbull) evened the score, 1-1, in the 38th minute off a deflection from senior defender Aaron Streid (Granite City, Ill./Granite City), and Grant's goal in the 43rd minute off an assist by sophomore forward Kavel Smith (Kingston, Jamaica/St. George’s College) gave the Bearcats a 2-1 lead heading into the half.

Grant gave McKendree a 3-1 lead with his school-record 23rd goal of the season off an assist by Streid in the 76th minute, and Streid himself found the back of the net off Ward's corner kick in the 78th minute to place the Bearcats in front 4-1. Williams struck again with a minute to play off an assist by senior midfielder Kameron Young (Mascoutah, Ill./Mascoutah) to earn the 5-1 win.

Redshirt junior goalkeeper Tim Day (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) improved to 2-0 overall with the victory.

The Bearcats will close out their season on Saturday, October 29th at 3 p.m., at William Woods University.
