(ST. LOUIS, Mo., Nov. 19)- A poor second half of shooting proved to be too much for the McKendree University women's basketball team to overcome in a 70-62 loss at University of Missouri-St. Louis.
The Bearcats fell to 5-2 overall and will host Blackburn College on Tuesday, November 22 at 7 p.m.

Caty Ponce (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) led McKendree with 16 points, while sophomore guard
Brittany Willis (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway South) scored 10 points. Junior guard
Leann Voss (Breese, Ill./Breese Central) had a career-high eight assists and junior forward
Shelby Woelfel (Jerseyville, Ill./Jerseyville) recorded a season-high 11 rebounds in the contest.
The Bearcats seized the momentum early and used a 7-0 run to take a 10-3 lead with 14:08 left in the first half. Two free throws by junior forward
Courtney Harris (Wildwood, Mo./St. Joseph Academy) gave McKendree its largest lead of the day, 19-9, with 8:48 left, and the Bearcats held onto their edge over the next three minutes to lead 27-19 with just over five minutes to play. Alexis Lawarence and Caitlyn Moody each drained three pointers to spur UMSL into a 10-0 run to take a 29-27 lead with just over two minutes to play, and the teams found themselves at a 33-33 lock at the half.
McKendree traded baskets with the Tritons in the opening minutes of the second half and took a 43-42 lead on a three-pointer by Ponce with 15:41 left in the game. The Bearcats lead was short-lived though, and UMSL went on a 10-0 run to take a 52-43 lead with 11:35 left in the game. Back-to-back buckets by redshirt junior
Emily Woodland (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) cut the McKendree deficit to five, 52-47, but the Tritons scored eight straight to take a 60-47 lead with just over eight minutes remaining. A jumper by Woelfel at the four-minute mark cut the UMSL lead down to single-digits, and two free throws by Ponce with 1:23 left got the Bearcats to within four, 64-60, but UMSL converted six of tehir eight free throws down the strecth to hold onto the win.
Moody led all players with 21 points for the Tritons, while Devonna Smith scored 17 points and led all players with 12 rebounds. Kelly Carter also scored in double-digits for UMSL with 11 points.
