BEARCATS DROP SECOND STRAIGHT AFTER 70-63 LOSS TO ROBERT MORRIS-CHICAGO

Box Score

(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 26)- Freshman forward Danielle Amann-Stewart (Mascoutah, Ill./Mascoutah) scored a career-high 21 points, but a 10 point first-half deficit was too much to overcome for McKendree University in a 70-63 loss to Robert Morris University-Chicago.

The Bearcats fell to 6-4 overall and will return to the court on Tuesday, November 29th in Boubonnais, Ill., to play Olivet Nazarene University at 7 p.m.

McKendree had four players score in double-figures and were led by Amann-Stewart's 21 points, while freshman guard Caty Ponce (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) added 15 points. Junior forward Shelby Woelfel (Jerseyville, Ill./Jerseyville) recorded the double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds, and junior guard Leann Voss (Breese, Ill./Breese Central) had 10 points.

The Eagles jumped out to an early 12-7 lead, before a jumper by Ponce brought the Bearcats within three, 12-7. Robert Morris responded with a 7-0 run to extend its lead to 19-9 at the 10-minute mark. The Eagles kept up the pressure in the first half and capitalized off of nine turnovers by McKendree in the first half to take a 33-22 lead into the half.

A layup by Celeste Jones gave the Eagles their largest lead of the game, 41-26, with 16 minutes left in the second half, only for the Bearcats to outscore the visitors 10-4 over the next three minutes to cut their deficit to 45-36 with 13 minutes to play. McKendree took advantage of Robert Morris' aggressive play to force the bonus and rally to make it a four-point game, 52-48, with 8:15 left to play  after a 7-of-8 effort from the free throw line in that span. The Bearcats got as close as three, 64-61, with 51-seconds left, but it wouldn't be enough and McKendree dropped its second-straight game of the season.

Sarah Rogers led all players with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Jones recorded 19 points for the Eagles.
