Box Score (EDMOND, Okla., Feb. 18)- A poor second-half shooting effort was too much to overcome for the McKendree University women's basketball team in a 83-68 loss at University of Central Oklahoma on Saturday.
The Bearcats fall to 7-20 overall and will host Mid-Continent University on Tuesday, February 21st at 7 p.m.
Freshman guard
Danielle Amann-Stewart (Mascoutah, Ill./Mascoutah) led McKendree with 17 points, while fellow freshman guard
Caty Ponce (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) and redshirt senior forward
Ashley Dressler (Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge) scored 11 and 10 points, respectively. Redshirt senior guard
Ashley Agee (Moberly, Mo./Moberly)'s eight points moved her into sixth place on McKendree's all-time scoring list with 1,365 points.
After shooting over 45-percent from the floor in the first half, the Bearcats only managed to go 8-for-30 from the field in the second half, including 0-of-6 from beyond the arc, to fall behind and were unable to recover.
McKendree never held a lead in the first half, but kept the deficit to single digits and tied the game, 39-39, on a three-pointer by Agee with under two minutes to play. The Bronchos held on to close out the first half and held a 44-41 lead at the break.
The Bearcats rebounded and scored the first six points out of the half to take a 47-44 lead. A three-pointer by Savannah Hamilton tied the game back up, 47-47, and the contest remained a back-and-forth one-point game over the next two minutes, until Central Oklahoma went on a 12-0 run to jump out to a 65-52 lead with 12 minutes to play and led by as many as 18 down the stretch to earn the win.
Savannah Hamilton led all players with 30 points for the Bronchos, while Jill Bryan and Autumn Huffman scored 18 and 12 points, respectively. Bryan also pulled down 10 rebounds to record the double-double.
