McKENDREE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM FALLS AT LINDENWOOD, 72-57

Box Score (ST. CHARLES, Mo., Feb. 9)- Freshman guard Caty Ponce (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) and redshirt senior guard Ashley Agee (Moberly, Mo./Moberly) both scored in double-figures, but a poor first-half shooting effort was too much to overcome in a 72-57 loss at Lindenwood University (Mo.) on Thursday night.

The Bearcats fall to 7-17 overall and will host Truman State University on Saturday, February 11th at 7 p.m.  McKendree will honor Agee and redshirt senior Ashley Dressler (Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge) prior to the game in a senior night ceremony. The women's basketball team will also be wearing pink to raise breast cancer awareness for the Play 4Kay initiative and raising money for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

Ponce led the Bearcats with 20 points and four assists, while Agee contributed 13 points. Redshirt junior forward Emily Woodland (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) had eight rebounds to lead all players. McKendree was a perfect 12-of-12 from the free throw line in the contest and shot 60-percent from the field in the second half. The host Lady Lions caused McKendree to commit 19 turnovers in the contest and outscored the Bearcats, 21-11, off turnovers, while also scoring 15 points off of 15 offensive rebounds.

Two free throws by Ponce gave McKendree an 8-6 lead after six minutes of play, and after battling back-and-forth and tying the game on four different occasions, the Lions took outscored the Bearcats, 8-2, over the final 4:46 of the first half to take a 32-26 lead into the half.

A jumper by freshman guard Haeley Kreisel (Warsaw, Mo./Warsaw) brought McKendree within four, 34-30, a minute into the second half, but Lindenwood responded with a 9-0 run to take a 43-30 lead with 15:28 to play. A jumper by Dressler cut the deficit to eight, 51-43, with 10:36 left, only for the Lady Lions to regain and hold on to a double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest for the 72-57 win.
