(LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 23)—The McKendree University men's golf team turned in a third-place performance at the University of Illinois Springfield Fall Invitational, which was contested Saturday and Sunday at Piper Glen Golf Club in Springfield, Ill. A total of 11 teams were entered in the tournament.
The Bearcats sat just three strokes off the lead after Saturday's first-round play, and finished the 36-hole tournament with a team score of 616. McKendree was 19 strokes behind Illinois Wesleyan University, which captured the overall team title. Illinois Central College was the runner-up.
Individually, McKendree had two golfers place in the top 10 on the final leaderboard. Sophomore
Nathan Nottrott (Maryville, IL/Collinsville) (Maryville, Ill./Collinsville) finished in a tie for third place with a score of 148. That included a round of 73 on Saturday. Junior
Lewis Martin (Effingham, IL/St. Anthony) (Effingham, Ill.) tied for eighth overall at 151. Martin had the low score of the tournament for McKendree, shooting an even-par 72 in Saturday's opening round.
McKendree will return to the links Sept. 30 at the NCAA Fall Regional. The event will be held at Brighton Dale Links in Kansasville, Wis.
