Box Score (KENOSHA, Wis., Sep. 30)- The McKendree University men's soccer team won its third-straight Great Lakes Valley Conference match on Sunday with a 4-1 win at University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
The Bearcats improved to 7-3 overall and 5-3 in the GLVC following the win, and will host a pair of conference matches next weekend. McKendree will host Missouri S&T on Friday, Oct. 5 at 7:30 p.m., followed by a 2:30 p.m. match on Sunday, Oct. 7, against No. 19 Drury University.
McKendree has outscored its opponents, 9-3, since suffering a 5-0 loss to University of Indianapolis on Friday, Sep. 21.
Freshman midfielder
Liam Robley (Lazonby, Cumbria, England/Queen Elizabeth Grammar School) put the Bearcats in the lead, 1-0, in the 22nd minute with a goal on an assist by junior midfielder
Kavel Smith (Kingston, Jamaica/St. George’s College). McKendree placed three of its six shots on frame in the first half, while holding the Rangers to only three total shots through the first 45 minutes of play.
The Bearcats extended their lead quickly in the second half with two goals in just over a two minute span. Freshman forward
Alex Ridsdale (Nelson, New Zealand/Mount Albert) found freshman midfielder
Dominic Plant (Newcastle, Staffordshire, England/Madelay) open on the left side in the 68th minute and Plant chipped a shot over the goalkeeper to take a 2-0 lead. Freshman midfielder
Eddie Wilding (Felixstowe, Sussex, England/Doncaster College) scored in the 70th minute, scoring off a pass from freshman forward
Joshua Fawssett (Lewes, Sussex, England/Sussex Downs College), to push their lead to 3-0.
Wisconsin-Parkside cut its deficit to two in the 81st minute when Collin Monahan scored off a free kick, but junior forward
Blessing Tupiri (Harare, Zimbabwe/Falcon College) scored McKendree's fourth goal of the day in the 83rd minute off a double assist from Wilding and Robley to seal the win.
Freshman goalkeeper
Matt Derrington (St. Louis, Mo./Trinity Catholic) played all 90 minutes in goal for McKendree improved to 3-0 overall, while grabbing three saves.
