(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 1)--
A familiar opponent will be on the visitor's side of Leemon Field Saturday when the McKendree University football team plays host to Quincy University. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. The contest will be carried live on the Bearcat Sports Network (www.mckbearcats.com/watchlive) beginning with the pre-game show at 5:45 p.m.

McKendree and Quincy will be meeting on the gridiron for the 15th time since the 1997 season. The Bearcats and Hawks were long-time rivals when both programs were members of the Mid-States Football Association. McKendree holds a 10-4 advantage in the all-time series against Quincy, and the Bearcats have won all seven previous meetings at Leemon Field. The Hawks turned the tables on the Bearcats in last year's contest, a 38-19 Quincy victory at Flinn Stadium in Quincy, Ill. McKendree pulled within 24-19 late in the third quarter on a 60-yard touchdown run by Jeruel Taylor (University Park, IL/Marian Catholic), but Quincy scored twice in the fourth quarter to pull away for the win.

Both teams will be looking for their second GLVC victory of the 2013 season. McKendree enters Saturday's contest with a 2-5 overall record and 1-3 mark in the GLVC, while Quincy sports a 2-6 overall mark and is also 1-3 in the league. The Bearcats were defeated last Saturday at Saint Joseph's College, 31-13. In that game, Dewayne Gatti (Pasadena, CA/Bonita) notched his second straight 100-yard receiving effort as he caught nine passes for 110 yards. Isaac Fisher (Washington, IL/Washington) completed 21-of-34 pass attempts for 209 yards. With 1,367 yards on the season, Fisher needs just 342 to become the Bearcats' single-season leader in passing yards. Older brother Austin Fisher threw for 1,708 yards during his sophomore season of 2009.

A trio of linebackers have been battling for the team lead in tackles all season long. Sophomores Alec Gerdes (Normal, IL/Normal) and George Hill (Chicago Heights, IL/Rich Central) are the top two in tackles through seven games with 54 and 51, respectively, while junior Harrison Skokos (Bradenton, FL/Lakewood Ranch) is third with 43 stops. Sophomore defensive lineman Brett Pearman (Granite City, IL/Granite City) picked up his team-leading fourth sack of the season last Saturday at Saint Joseph's.

Quincy suffered a 19-17 setback at home last Saturday against William Jewell College. The Cardinals used a 46-yard field goal from Warren Frevert with 1:03 to play to earn their first GLVC win of the season. Jared King led the Hawks' rushing attack with 103 yards on 18 carries, while Dante Flowers picked up 63 yards on 12 attempts. King has gained a team-high 508 yards and scored eight TDs so far ths season for Quincy. Quarterback Nick Lonergan was 16-for-27 against William Jewell for 167 yards with a touchdown. He has thrown for 1,872 yards and 13 touchdowns through the first eight games of the year.

Defensively, linebacker Ike Onike registered 13 tackles to lead the Hawks last weekend. Onike tops the Hawks with 65 tackles and two interceptions, while Dan Camp is next with 59 tackles, including five for loss.

Dating back to the 2002 season, McKendree is 10-2 in regular-season home games in the month of November. Back in 2011, the Bearcats and Hawks met in the final game of the season on Nov. 19, with McKendree coming away with the 44-20 win.
