The McKendree University men's soccer team begins its 2013 season with home games on Thursday night and Sunday afternoon.
The Bearcats will kick off their season by hosting their home opener against William Woods University on Thursday night at 7 p.m. The Owls enter the game with an overall record of 0-1 this season.
McKendree will close out its non-conference slate on Sunday when they host Baker University at 2:30 p.m. The Wildcats are currently 1-2-1 overall this season.
OPENING ACT: McKendree head soccer coach John VanBuskirk is making his debut for the Bearcats Thursday night. VanBuskirk was named as the new head men's soccer coach in February. He previously served as an assistant coach at GLVC-foe University of Missouri-St. Louis for the past two seasons.
SEASON OPENER: The Bearcats are looking to extend their streak of season opening wins to 10 on Thursday. The last time McKendree lost a season opener was on September 1, 2002 in a 3-2 loss to Aquinas College. The Bearcats are 11-4 in season openers dating back to the 1997 season.
SCOUTING THE OWLS: William Woods is currently 0-1 this season after suffering a season opening 1-0 loss to Avila University on August 28. The Bearcats hold a 9-2-1 record overall against the Owls dating back to 1997.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS: Baker is currently 1-2-1 overall this season, but hosts Concordia University (Calif.) Thursday night before coming to Lebanon on Sunday. The Bearcats are 0-1-1 all-time against the Wildcats in their only two previous meetings.
