Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 5)- Alex Ridsdale (Nelson, New Zealand/Mount Albert) converted two penalty kicks and assisted on another goal to help lead the McKendree University men's soccer team to a 4-0 win over William Woods University on Thursday night.
The Bearcats improved to 1-0 overall with the win and will host Baker University on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 2:30 p.m. in their final non-conference matchup of the season.
Head coach
John VanBuskirk earned his first win at McKendree with the victory. VanBuskirk was named head coach of the Bearcats in February after serving as an assistant coach at University of Missouri-St. Louis for two seasons.
The Owls had two scoring chances early but were turned away with saves from sophomore goalkeeper

C.J. Cerna (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville) put McKendree on the board, 1-0, in the sixth minute on a goal from the left side on an assist from Ridsdale.
Leading by one to start the second half, Ridsdale extended the lead to 3-0 by converting penalty kick chances in the 50th and 56th minutes. Freshman forward
B.J. Tucker (St. Louis, Mo./DeSmet) scored the final goal of the game, and the first of his collegiate career, in the 88th minute off a long pass from sophomore defender
Reece Fallon (Watford, Hertfordshire, England/St. Michaels Catholic) to push the score to 4-0.
Armistead improved to 1-0 overall on the season with the victory and had seven saves in just over 80 minutes in goal. Sophomore
Matt Derrington (St. Louis, Mo./Trinity Catholic) played the final 9:58 of the game and the duo combined to earn a team shutout.
