(LEBANON, Ill., Dec. 16)--The McKendree University men's basketball team will wrap up the early portion of its 2014-15 schedule Tuesday with a visit to Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. Tip-off for the non-conference battle is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (6:30 p.m. CT). The game can be heard live on the Bearcat Sports Network at www.mckbearcats.com/watch. That is the only live media available for Tuesday's contest.
The Bearcats head into Tuesday's game looking to bounce back from its first loss of the season. McKendree was defeated at home on Saturday by Trevecca Nazarene University, 71-62. The Bearcats ran into a hot-shooting Trojans' squad that connected for 13 three-point field goals in collecting the win. Sophomore guard
Michael Jackson (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) came off the bench to score a career-high 15 points to lead McKendree against Trevecca Nazarene. Senior forward
Arthur Williams (Cairo, IL/Cairo) posted a double-double in the contest with 13 points and a season-high 13 rebounds. Junior forward
John Murphy (Peoria, IL/Richwoods) added nine points, while junior forward
Brandon Book (Albers, IL/Breese Central) chipped in with eight points, nine rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.
McKendree, now 5-1 on the year, has played on the road just once this season, picking up a 90-81 victory at Trevecca Nazarene back on Nov. 29. Senior forward
Matt Holmes (Houston, TX/Marshall) poured in a career-high 27 points and grabbed nine rebounds to pace the Bearcats in that triumph, while senior guard
Logan Carson (DuQuoin, IL/DuQuoin) helped out with 20 points and seven rebounds.
Central State brings a 6-4 overall record into Tuesday's meeting against McKendree. The Marauders edged Ohio Midwestern College at home on Saturday, 72-70. Masceo Harmon registered a game-high 25 points and added six rebounds, five assists and a game-high eight steals in the victory. Antone Byrd helped out with 18 points, seven rebounds and four steals, while Jeremy Brown pulled down a team-best 10 rebounds for the Marauders.
Harmon leads Central State in scoring at 17.5 points per game, while Raheem Lemons is next at 13.4 points per contest. Lemons also leads the squad in rebounding at 9.5 boards per outing Harmon has dished out 35 assists and picked up 34 steals for the Marauders, who are members of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Central State brings a three-game win streak into Tuesday's game.
Following the contest, McKendree will not have another game until Jan. 2. That night, the Bearcats will head to St. Louis to open Great Lakes Valley Conference play at Maryville University. McKendree will follow that with a Jan. 4 match-up at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. The Bearcats will play their first home game after the holiday break on Jan. 8 when Truman State University comes to the Harry M. Statham Sports Center.
