Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., March 30)- The McKendree University women's lacrosse team dropped a close game to Wheeling Jesuit University on Sunday 11-9.
The Bearcats fall to 2-5 overall and will host Colorado Mesa University on Friday, April 11 at 7 p.m.
Freshman midfielder
Victoria Lelo (Auckland, New Zealand/Westlake) led McKendree with three goals, while sophomore midfielder
Shirley Boland (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) and freshman attacker Hannah Scneider each had two goals. Schneider's three assists also tied a single-game school record for the Bearcats. Sophomore
Rianne Holzmeyer (Hazelwood, Mo./Hazelwood West) attacker and freshman midfielder
Morgan Cremen (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) rounded out McKendree's scoring with one goal each.
The Bearcats took a 3-2 lead on Schneider's goal with 15:52 left in the first half, but the Cardinals scored four unanswered goals to take a 6-3 lead with just over two minutes left in the opening half. McKendree cut the deficit to 6-5 after goals by Cremen and Holzmeyer, but Wheeling Jesuit scored with two seconds left in the opening half to take a 7-5 lead into the half.
McKendree scored four times in the second half, and came within 11-9 with Lelo's goal with 3:29 left in the game, but were unable strike again in the remainder of the game.
Freshman goalie
Amy Porta (Ellisville, Mo./Marquette) fell to 1-4 overall and had 10 saves in the loss.
