Michaela Hutchison, and sophomores
Alexis Porter (Ballston Lake, N.Y., Shenendehowa High School) and
Brandy Lowe (Paxico, Kan., Saint Mary's) all qualified for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials this weekend at the 2015 Senior Nationals and Olympic Trials Qualifier in Las Vegas, Nev.
Hutchison won the national championship at 53kg, while Porter and Lowe earned fifth place finishes at 63kg and 75kg, respectively. Hutchison pinned her first three opponents to reach the championship finals. She went on to earn a 3-0 decision win over Haley Augello of the New York Athletic Club in the championship match.
Porter won her first two matches, a 10-0 tech fall over Sarah Bollinger of Missouri Baptist University and a 13-7 decision over Monica Ramirez of Lindenwood University. She was pinned in her next match by Mallory Velte of Titan Mercury Wrestling Club, but bounced back in the consolation bracket. She defeated McKendree teammate
Jasmine Bailey (Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City West) by tech fall, 12-2, and followed with a decision win over Leigh Jaynes-Provisor in the consolation quarterfinals. She lost a 13-2 tech fall to Erin Clodgo of Sunkist Kids Wrestling, but pinned Hannah Jewell of King University in 2:08 to finish in fifth place.
Lowe won her opening match with a close 7-6 decision over Katerina Lobsinger of Combat Sports Academy, but lost her next match to Jackie Surber of Titan Mercury by tech fall 12-1 to drop to the consolation bracket. Lowe lost her next match to Niauni Hill of Lindenwood, but finished in fifth place with a win by injury default over Lobsinger in the fifth place match.
The 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials will be held on April 9-10 in Iowa City, Iowa.
