(SPRINGFIELD, Mo., Oct. 22) – The McKendree University D3 men's hockey team was defeated by Missouri State on Saturday afternoon in Springfield, Mo. by a final score of 14-2. The Bearcats lost to the Ice Bears in both contests over the weekend.
The Ice Bears had a quick start to the game, scoring two goals early in the first period. Senior
Brett Maggio (Collinsville, IL/O'Fallon) had a response, to make it 2-1. Freshman defenseman Nick Gay scored next to tie the game at two, but Missouri State scored five more to close out the first period up 7-2 over McKendree. The second and third periods were all Ice Bears, scoring seven more to take a 14-2 win over the Bearcats.
Maggio scored a goal in the game to put his season total at eight. He now has eight goals and two assists for ten points. Gay scored his first goal of the season in just four games played, giving him his only point of the season.
The Bearcats are back on the ice November 4 and 5, against Washington University – St. Louis at East Alton Ice Arena at 10:45 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
