(FAYETTEVILLE, Ark., Nov 11) – The McKendree University D3 men's hockey team fell to the University of Arkansas by a final score of 9-3 on Friday evening.
The Razorbacks opened the scoring in the game, grabbing a two goal lead before junior forward
Ethan Gremminger (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt North) found the back of the net on an unassisted goal. At the end of the first period McKendree was down 2-1. The University of Arkansas opened the scoring in the second period as well, but freshman forward
Matt Adams (Amisk, AB, Canada/Hughenden Public School) had a response to keep the Bearcats within one. Senior forward
Brett Maggio (Collinsville, IL/O'Fallon) was credited with the assist on Adams goal. The Razorbacks would go on to score two more times before the conclusion of the second period, taking a 5-2 lead into the third period. The University of Arkansas scored first in the third period as well extending their lead to 6-2. However, freshman forward
Cole Fluchel (Wildwood, MO/Eureka HS) found the back of the net on a pass from Adams to cut the lead to three. The Razorbacks weren't done scoring, however, netting three more goals before the final buzzer to defeat the Bearcats by a final score of 9-3.
Adams registered a goal and an assist for two points in the game. He now has four goals and four assists for eight points on the season. Gremminger scored his sixth goal of the season in the game, to give him eight points on the season as well. Fluchel scored his fourth goal of the season in the game, to put his point total at seven on the year. Maggio added one assist in the game, his fifth of the season, along with his 8 goals for 13 points.
The Bearcats and the Razorbacks faceoff again Saturday evening at 8 p.m. at the Jones Center in Springdale, Arkansas.
