Bearcats Sweep Southern Indiana On Senior Day

(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 12) -- The McKendree University women's volleyball team finished the regular season with a perfect 10-0 home record after a 3-0 victory over the University of Southern Indiana in a Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup. The Bearcats won by scores of 25-20, 25-18, and 25-23.

McKendree improves to 21-9 overall and 16-2 in the GLVC. The Bearcats earned the second seed in the East Division of the GLVC Tournament which begins Nov. 19 in Peoria, IL.

???????McKendree was led by junior outside hitter Arela Williams (San Diego, CA/LaJolla Country Day) who went 10-19 from the field for a .474 attack percentage. Williams also added six digs and one block. Senior outside hitter Allison Schneider (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) tabbed eight kills, five digs, and three blocks, while senior right side Bailey Kampwerth (Breese, IL/Mater Dei) and senior middle hitter Sophie Fairman (Staunton, IL/Staunton) put down seven kills apiece.

Senior setters Rebecca Nauman (Yorkville, IL/Yorkville) and Aubry Dickmann (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) each doled out 17 assists and tallied five, and six digs respectively. Junior right side Amanda Geiger (Tomball, TX/Concordia Lutheran) put down five kills and tied Fairman for a match high four blocks. Senior libero Breanna Howe (Mt. Pulaski, IL/Mt. Pulaski) stuck a match high 16 digs from the back row for McKendree.

Schneider and Howe flip flopped a pair of kills and aces as part of a 4-0 run to give the Bearcats an early 6-2 lead in the first set. Southern Indiana cut the gap to two before junior middle blocker Carissa Lorenz (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way West) book ended another 4-0 run with a pair of kills to give the Bearcats a 10-4 lead. McKendree held serve with another three point run that featured kills from Williams and Geiger and an ace from Lorenz to move ahead 14-7. Fairman tallied three kills down the stretch for the Bearcats as McKendree took the first set by five.

The Screaming Eagles took four of the first six points to start the second set before surrendering four straight kills with a trio coming from Kampwerth to push the Bearcats ahead 6-4. McKendree followed up with five straight points to extend the lead to 11-5. Fairman put down back to back blocks up front as part of a 4-0 run to push the set out of reach as the Bearcats took a 2-0 lead.

The third set was all McKendree as Williams tallied six kills to lead the Bearcats onslaught. Fairman and Schneider each chipped in three kills as McKendree strolled to a 12 points win to clinch the match.
