(EAST ALTON, Ill., Nov. 5) – The McKendree University D3 hockey team fell to Washington University – St. Louis on Friday night and Saturday afternoon. Friday night the Bearcats were defeated 7-1 and Saturday afternoon the Bearcats fell 7-5.
The Bearcats overall record is now 2-8, following the two losses.
On Friday night the Bearcats lone goal came from freshman forward
Matt Adams (Amisk, AB, Canada/Hughenden Public School) on a pass from junior forward
Ethan Gremminger (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt North).
McKendree rebounded back hard on Saturday afternoon. After going down 2-0 on power play goals the Bearcats scored a power play goal of their own.

Brett Maggio (Collinsville, IL/O'Fallon) and freshman
Trevor Rieck (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon Township HS) to cut the lead down to one heading into the second period. Wash. U scored two quick goals to open the period. However, Rieck had an answer just 11 seconds after the second goal to keep the game close. Rieck added his second goal of the game on an unassisted tally with just 2:36 left in the second. The Bearcats were still trailing 4-3 heading into the third period, but just two minutes into the third freshman
Cole Fluchel (Wildwood, MO/Eureka HS) scored with assists credited to Rieck and
Nathan Gaterman (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh HS) to tie the game at four. The Bears regained their lead a few minutes later, but senior
Aaron Rogers (Troy, IL/Triad HS) scored an unassisted goal to tie the game back up. The Bearcats couldn't keep up however, with Wash. U scoring two more times before the final buzzer.
Rieck had an impressive game posting two goals and two assists for four points. Rieck now has six points on the season, with three goals and three assists. Gremminger added a goal and an assist on the weekend for two points. He now has six points total, with four goals and two assists. Maggio added one assist on the weekend, for a season total of eight goals and three assists for eleven points.
The Bearcats hit the ice again on Friday, November 11 and Saturday, November 12 at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
