(IOWA CITY, Iowa, April 10)- The McKendree University women's wrestling team had six individuals compete at the U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials in Iowa City, Iowa this weekend.
Assistant coach
Michaela Hutchison was McKendree's top finisher with a fourth place finish at 53kg. She won her first two matches before losing a 7-2 decision to eventual runner-up Whitney Conder in the semifinals 7-2. She pinned Sarah Hildebrandt in the consolation semifinals, but lost a 6-5 decision to Katherine Fulp-Allen in the third place match.
Sophomore
Alexis Porter (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Shenendehowa High School) lost to eventual champion Elena Pirozhkova in the quarterfinals at 63kg, 11-1, but bounced back with back-to-back wins in the consolation bracket to reach the consolation semifinals. Porter was pinned by Amanda Hendey in 2:26 to bow out in the consolation semifinals.
Sophomores
Megan Black (Batavia, Iowa/Eddyville-Balcksburg-Fremont) and
Brandy Lowe (Paxico, Kan./Saint Mary's) both won one match at the Olympic Trials. Black defeated Sally Roberts by injury default at 58kg, and Lowe defeated Alyssa LaFrancis in an 11-5 decision at 75kg.
Juniors
Tayler Resuriz (League City, Texas/Clear Falls) and
Olivia Seppinni (Rocklin, Calif./Rocklin) both went 0-2 at the event while competing at 48kg and 63kg, respectively.
