(LEBANON, Ill., May 25)—McKendree University sophomore
Alexis Porter (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Shenendehowa High School) claimed a spot at the U.S. Junior National Team with her performance last weekend at the Body Bar Nationals held in Irving, Texas.
Porter was one of five current McKendree wrestlers who competed at the Body Bar Nationals. Wrestling at 67 kilograms, Porter worked her way through the field and finished atop the final standings. She now has qualified for a spot on the United World Wrestling (UWW) Junior World squad that will compete August 30-Sept. 4 in the 2016 Junior World Wrestling Championship to be held in Macon, Ga. Porter registered a runner-up finish at last year's Body Bar event.
This was the first event for Porter since reaching the consolation bracket semifinals at the U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials in April.
McKendree was also represented by four freshmen at the 2016 Body Bar Nationals. Alex Glaude placed the highest of the quartet as she turned in a fourth-place showing at 72 kilograms.
Alexia Ward (Portland, Ore./Westview) went 3-2 on the weekend at 63 kilograms and was one victory away from placing at the event. Susan Fozo split her four matches competing at 55 kilograms, while
Emma Mooneyham (Fort Worth, Texas/Chisholm Trail) was defeated twice in the 67-kilogram division.
