(LEBANON, Ill., Dec. 2) – The McKendree University men's D3 hockey team swept Bradley University with an 8-2 win on Friday, and a 9-0 shutout victory on Saturday at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex.
McKendree improves to 9-2 on the season with Saturday afternoon's win, and 4-0 against Bradley University. The game was all McKendree as junior goaltender Zach Allen and the Bearcats were able to hold Bradley off of the scoreboard. The Bearcats outshot the Braves by a 40 shot margin, with the shot totals at 57-17.
The Bearcats opened the scoring at the 10:39 mark of the first period on a power play goal by senior defenseman Ethan Gremminger. Gremminger lit the lamp again with 1:20 to play in the period to close out the first period scoring. McKendree continued to pour it on in the second period, when freshman forward Zack Miceli fired a shot that beat the Braves goaltender to give the Bearcats a 3-0 lead. Freshman forward Derek Northrop gave McKendree the four goal lead halfway through the period, with freshman Garrett Poole and freshman forward Adam Dempski registering assists on the goal. Four minutes later freshman forward Nick Nelson netted his eighth goal of the season on a pass from freshman defenseman Riley Brown. Freshman forward Trevor Rieck capped off the second period scoring with senior forward Garrett Kellam and sophomore forward Brendan Kelly notching assists.
The third period saw three more goals from the Bearcats including freshman defenseman Jacob Scrum's third goal of the season, freshman forward Dalton Wolfe's second goal of the season, and freshman forward Adam Dempski's ninth goal of the season. McKendree took home the 9-0 victory to give the Bearcats their fourth straight victory over the Braves.
Allen started in net for the Bearcats turning aside all 17 shots on goal for his first shutout of the season. Allen's record improves to 8-2 on the year. Dempski notched three points on the night, with one goal and two assists. Gremminger, Nelson, Kelly, Blandina, and Miceli each notched two points on the night.
