(LEBANON, Ill., Jan. 30) – The McKendree University men's D3 hockey team prepares to play Washington University-St. Louis at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex on Friday, Feb. 3
rd at 9:45 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 4
th at 7 p.m.
The Bearcats will be playing for the first time since mid-November of last year, when they played against Northern Illinois splitting the series. The Bearcats picked up their third win of the season when they shut out the Huskies 6-0. McKendree enters this series 3-11 overall, and the Wash U. Bears are currently 7-4 overall.
Friday will be Alumni night where Bearcats from the past 13 years of the program will return to Lebanon. Saturday will be senior night where the Bearcats will honor senior defensemen
Aaron Rogers (Troy, IL/Triad HS) and
Zach Loehr (Glen Carbon, IL/Edwardsville HS).
The Bearcats are lead in points by senior forward
Brett Maggio (Collinsville, IL/O'Fallon). Maggio currently has eight goals and five assists for 13 points. Freshman forward
Cole Fluchel (Wildwood, MO/Eureka HS) has netted four goals and six assists for 10 points. Forwards
Ethan Gremminger (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt North) and
Matt Adams (Amisk, AB, Canada/Hughenden Public School) each have 8 points. Gremminger has netted five goals and three assists and Adams has scored four goals and added four assists. Rounding out the point leaders for the Bearcats are freshman forward Trever Reick and junior forward
Garrett Kellam (St. Joseph, MO/Central) with seven points each. Reick and Kellam each have three goals and four assists.
In goal for McKendree has been sophomore goalkeeper
Zachary Allen (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny) with a record of 2-5 overall. Allen nabbed the only shut out for the Bearcats against Northern and currently has a .835 save percentage.
