(LEBANON, Ill., March 15) -- The McKendree University men's volleyball team hits the road for a pair of Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association contests this week beginning Thursday at 7 p.m. in Romeoville, IL as the Bearcats take on the No. 7 Flyers of Lewis University before wrapping up the week on Sunday with a 4 p.m. showdown against the No. 10 Ramblers of Loyola University Chicago.
McKendree enters the week with an overall mark of 7-14 and sits in sixth in the league with a record of 2-6.
Senior opposite
Maalik Walker (Shorewood, IL/Minooka) paces the Bearcats with 3.45 kills per set, which ranks fourth in the MIVA along with 1.15 digs. Junior outside hitter
Nolan Rueter (Burlington, WI/Burlington) is second on the team at 2.90 kills per set to pair with 1.36 digs per set. Rueter also ranks sixth in the league in service aces per set. Senior middle hitter Wyatt adds 2.00 kills per set and leads the nation in attacking with a clip of .510.
Junior setter
Pasquale Fiduccia (Hanover Park, IL/Glenbard North) ranks ninth in the nation with 10.30 per set to go with 1.62 digs per set and .46 blocks. Senior opposite
Andrew Schnittker (Arlington Heights, IL/Buffalo Grove) has put down 2.65 kills and 1.08 digs per set, while junior middle blocker
Brendan Schmidt (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) has added 1.86 kills per set and leads the team with 1.07 blocks per set. Sophomore libero
Zach Thompson (Defiance, MO/Francis Howell) has stuck 2.19 digs per set, which ranks third in the MIVA.
ABOUT LEWIS UNIVERSITY
The Flyers hold a record of 16-5 overall and a 9-2 clip in MIVA play. Lewis is paced by sophomore opposite Mitch Perinar who averages 3.42 kills per set on .306 attacking. Perinar adds 1.01 digs and .67 blocks per set. Freshman outside hitter Ryan Coenen has added 3.01 kills per set to along with 1.10 digs and .61 blocks per set. Senior outside hitter Trevor Weiskircher rounds out the top three scorers for the Flyers with 2.19 kills and 1.09 digs per set. Sophomore setter Matt Yoshimoto has handed out 9.95 assists per set along with 1.37 digs and .60 blocks. Senior middle blocker Jacob Schmeigelt has put down 1.06 blocks per set and sophomore outside hitter Michael Simmons has put up 2.21 digs per set to anchor the Flyers defensive effort. Lewis topped McKendree 3-2 in its previous meeting this season on Feb. 11.
ABOUT LOYOLA UNIVERSITY CHICAGO
The Ramblers enter the week with a record of 11-7 overall and a 8-4 showing in conference play. Junior opposite Ben Plaisted leads Loyola with 2.65 kills per set along with 1.44 digs and .67 blocks. Junior middle blocker Jeff Jendryk is at 2.14 kills per set on .454 attacking. Jendryk also leads the team with 1.20 blocks per set, while sophomore outside hitter Collin Mahan has landed 2.12 kills and 1.57 digs per set. Freshman setter Ian Cowen has tallied 9.11 assists per set to pair with 1.34 digs. Loyola bested the Bearcats 3-0 in their first meeting this season.
