(LAWRENCE, KS., Nov. 30) – The McKendree University men's D3 hockey team took on the Jayhawks from the University of Kansas on Friday night, falling 8-3.
The Bearcats move to 4-7 overall on the season.
McKendree got on the board first with sophomore
Garrett Poole (Columbia, IL/Columbia High School) putting one past the Jayhawk netminder with help from fellow sophomore
Derek Northrop (St. Louis, MO/De Smet Jesuit High School). Kansas tied the game at one apiece four minutes later. Sophomore
Dalton Wolfe (Pekin, IL/Pekin Community High School) put the Bearcats ahead midway through the first period with an assist from junior
Nathan Gaterman (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh High School). The Jayhawks answered back with two goals to go ahead 3-2 at the end of the first period.
After the second period, McKendree was down 6-2.
Poole netted his second goal of the game to snap the Jayhawks streak of five consecutive goals. Sophomore
Nick Nelson (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell High School) was credited with the assist.
Kansas scored two more goals to defeat McKendree 8-2.
The Bearcats will look to split the series Saturday afternoon at 2:10 p.m.
