Allen Named MVP as D3 Hockey Wins MACHA Bronze Division Championship

(PEORIA, Ill., Feb. 10) – The McKendree University men's D3 hockey claimed the Mid-American Collegiate Hockey Assocation (MACHA) Bronze Division Tournament championship with a 5-2 over Washington University-St. Louis.
 
The Bearcats claim their first MACHA Bronze Championship with an overall record of 22-5.
 
McKendree took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal by freshman forward Adam Dempski with assists credited to freshmen forwards Garrett Poole and Derek Northrop. At the end of the first period the Bearcats held a 1-0 lead over the Bears.
 
Washington University came back in the second period with two goals to take a 2-1 lead over McKendree. The Bearcats bounced back in the second half of the third period with four unanswered goals to grab the 5-2 victory. Goal scorers in the third period included freshman forward Nick Nelson, Northrop with two goals, and freshman defenseman Jacob Scrum.
 
Northrop notched three points in the contest, netting two goals and one assist. Dempski also put up three points in the game with two assists and one goal. Scrum grabbed two points with one goal and one assist to help lift the Bearcats over the Bears.
 
The MACHA nominated junior goaltender Zach Allen as the Bronze Division MVP after turning aside 30 of 32 shots on goal in Saturday's matchup for a save percentage of 0.938.
