(EAST ALTON, Ill., Oct. 27) – The McKendree University men's D2 hockey team was swept by Southern Illinois University Edwardsville following a 3-2 loss to the Cougars late Saturday night.
The Bearcats fall to 4-3-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA).
After a scoreless first period, McKendree got on the board first late in the second period. Senior
Dmytro Golovko (Kiev, Ukraine/Nashua Christian Academy) scored with just under two minutes remaining in the period following an assist from sophomore
Cayden Brilley (Decatur, IL/St. Teresa). The Bearcats carried a 1-0 lead into the final period.
The Bearcats extended their lead to 2-0 shortly into the third period. Junior
Derek Northrop (St. Louis, MO/De Smet Jesuit High School) netted an unassisted power-play goal to push the lead. The Cougars answered back quickly, scoring three consecutive goals in two minutes. The lead held and Southern Illinois would go on to win 3-2 over McKendree.

Mason Young (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville High School) made 45/49 saves in the loss.
The Bearcats will take a weekend off before returning at home against Bradley University on Nov. 8-9.
