(LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 20)--The McKendree University men's basketball team is set to open a three-game home stand on Saturday against the University of Illinois Springfield. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. at the Statham Center. The contest will be carried live on the Bearcat Sports Network at
www.glvcsn.com/mckendree, beginning with the pre-game show five minutes before tip-off.
The Bearcats are 9-15 overall and 5-10 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. McKendree last played on Saturday in a 95-74 road last at Bellarmine University, which was ranked No. 9 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II poll at the time.
Logan Kohrmann (Bartelso, IL/Breese Central) led the Bearcats with 18 points while
Jacob Donaldson (Effingham, IL/Effingham) added 16 points and a pair of blocked shots. The contest also wrapped up a season-long four-game road trip for McKendree.
McKendree will be in search of its first two-game season sweep of Illinois Springfield since 2015-16 in Saturday's contest against UIS. Back on Jan. 5 in Springfield, Ill., the Prairie Stars jumped out to an early 10-point lead before the Bearcats rallied to grab a 77-75 win.
Nate Michael (St. Joseph, IL/St. Joseph-Ogden) registered a game-high 24 points, going a perfect 13-for-13 from the free throw line in the victory. Michael also grabbed a career-high nine rebounds in the effort.
Nolan Gerling (Germantown, IL/Mater Dei) added 17 points and six rebounds at UIS, while
Giovanni Offard (Freeport, IL/Freeport) chipped in with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Following Saturday's game with UIS, McKendree will have two more home games to close out the 2018-19 regular season: Feb. 28 against Bellarmine and March 2 versus the University of Southern Indiana.
ABOUT ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD
The Prairie Stars enter Saturday's meeting against McKendree with an overall record of 13-12 and a 6-9 ledger in GLVC play. UIS has lost its last six games, which includes a 100-72 loss on Saturday in its last outing at the University of Southern Indiana. Peyton Allen poured in a team-high 30 points to pace the Prairie Stars, while Vince Walker came off the bench to add 22 points in the effort.
Gliwan Nelson leads a group of four UIS players averaging in double figures at 15.3 PPG. Allen is next at 13.2 PPG while Aundrae Williams is scoring 11.4 PPG and Walker rounds out the group at 10.3 PPG. Williams has handed out a team-leading 61 assists as Daniel Soetan has collected 40 steals. Cole Harper is the leading scorer this season for Illinois Springfield at 5.7 RPG.
