(LEBANON, Ill., April 17)—The McKendree University men's bowling team will return to the lanes beginning Thursday morning at the 2019 Intercollegiate Team Championship (ITC), which is being held at Poelking Lanes South in Dayton, Ohio.
The Bearcats are the defending ITC champions, having won the 2018 crown with a 3-1 victory over Robert Morris University (Ill.) in a best-of-five Baker match last April in Lincoln, Neb. It marked the second ITC national championship in three years for McKendree, which also won the 2016 title with a thrilling come-from-behind victory over William Paterson University in Wichita, Kan.
McKendree is making its eighth appearance at the ITC event in the last nine years. The Bearcats will be seeking their fourth consecutive trip to the national championship match, adding a runner-up finish in 2017 in addition to their national titles from 2016 and 2018.
In 2018-19, McKendree has registered five tournament victories, including three straight that bridged the fall and spring semesters. The Bearcats won the National Collegiate Team Match Games – which they hosted over Thanksgiving weekend – before adding titles in the Roto Grip Eagles Baker Challenge and the Kegel/Illinois State BPA Midwest Collegiate Classic to open the 2019 portion of their schedule. McKendree also won the Midwest Bowling Championships in early October along with the Lions Classic a few weeks later.
Eight bowlers will represent McKendree at the 2019 ITC event – seniors
Alex Martin (Smyrna, GA/Smyrna),
Thorston Przychocki (Sebring, FL/Sebring) and
Collin Smith (Huron, SD/Huron), juniors
Andrew Cannuli (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown),
Bryan Hahlen (Greenwood, SC/Greenwood) and
Charlie Reid (San Antonio, TX/Sandra Day O'Connor), and sophomores
Jacob Nimtz (Loves Park, IL/Harlem) and
Andrew Orf (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon).
Competition at the 2019 Intercollegiate Team Championship will begin with 24 Baker games of qualifying Thursday morning and afternoon. Following a short break, the teams will return later Thursday afternoon to begin double-elimination match play. Bracket play will continue through Friday and into Saturday, with the final two teams remaining meeting in the ITC title match Saturday evening.
