(LEBANON, Ill., April 2)--A little less than 48 hours after wrapping up a weather-delayed Great Lakes Valley Conference series at Lewis University, the McKendree University baseball team will get right back to league play on Wednesday. The Bearcats will play host to the University of Southern Indiana. The Bearcats and Screaming Eagles will kick off their GLVC doubleheader with a noon first pitch at Hypes Field.

McKendree will look to rebound after getting swept in its weekend series at Lewis. The Bearcats enter the doubleheader with Southern Indiana at 9-17 overall and 6-9 in GLVC play. Wednesday's twinbill will mark the halfway point in the conference schedule for McKendree, which is still in the thick of the chase for a GLVC Tournament post-season berth. The top eight teams in the final regular-season conference standings will qualify for the 2019 GLVC Tournament that will be held in Springfield, Mo.

Following Wednesday's doubleheader, McKendree will make the short trip to St. Louis for a three-game weekend series at Maryville University. The Bearcats and Saints will play a doubleheader on Saturday before closing the weekend with a single contest on Sunday. 

ABOUT SOUTHERN INDIANA
The Screaming Eagles enter Wednesday's games with a 17-10 overall record and a 10-5 mark against GLVC foes. Southern Indiana dropped two of three games in last weekend's conference series at home against Missouri S&T. USI reached the 2018 NCAA Division II Baseball Championships a year ago by winning the Midwest Regional played in Springfield, Ill. 

Lucas McNew leads the Screaming Eagles with a .388 batting average and seven home runs. He is fourth on the squad with 22 RBI. Manny Lopez checks in at .352 with four homers and 26 RBI, while Ethan Hunter paces USI with 29 RBI to go along with four round-trippers and a .314 batting average. 

On the mound, Austin Krizan is 4-0 in seven starts while Austin Gossmann is close behind with a 4-1 record and a team-low 3.65 ERA. Paul Perez has notched a team-best three saves for the Screaming Eagles. 

Southern Indiana won three of four games in last year's season series against McKendree. The Bearcats took the third game, 10-9, as Austin Francis (Dupo, IL/Dupo), Andrew Aydt (Wildwood, MO/Eureka) and Austin Werner (Hamel, IL/Edwardsville) combined to drive in all 10 runs for McKendree. All three homered in the victory for the Bearcats.
