(LEBANON, Ill., April 5)--The McKendree University baseball team will make the short trip to St. Louis this weekend for a three-game series at Maryville University. The weather forecast has prompted a change in the look of the three-game set as the teams will play a single game Friday at 3 p.m. before wrapping up the series with a doubleheader Saturday at noon.
McKendree will look to get back on track as it enters the weekend with a 9-19 overall record and a 6-11 mark in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. The Bearcats dropped both ends of a GLVC doubleheader on Wednesday at home to the University of Southern Indiana.Â
Three starters are hitting over .300 entering the Maryville series.
Bryce Emery (Harrisburg, IL/Harrisburg) leads the trio at .360 while
Hayden Schaefer (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) is next at .333.
Matt Klosterman (Belleville, IL/Belleville West) rounds out the group with a .310 batting average.
Drew Reich (Charlestown, IN/Charlestown) hit his team-leading sixth home run of the season in Wednesday's opener against USI. Reich also took over the team lead in runs batted in with the blast as he sits at 19 on the year.
Corey Chambliss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) has driven in 18 runs, while
Andrew Aydt (Wildwood, MO/Eureka)Â is second on the team with four homers and is third in RBI with 16.Â
Andrew Yancik (Glen Carbon, IL/Edwardsville) leads the Bearcats' pitching staff with two victories while
Connor Gilles (High Ridge, MO/Rockwood Summit) leads the starting rotation with a 4.56 earned-run average.
Ryan Vogt (Ava, IL/Trico) and
Levi Brening (Coon Rapids, MN/DuQuoin) have each struck out a team-leading 30 batters heading into this weekend's play.
Adam Bunnell (Salem, IL/Salem) has registered three saves to lead McKendree.Â
After the Maryville series, McKendree will head to Southern Indiana on Tuesday for a single contest. The Bearcats will then play host to the University of Illinois Springfield next weekend in GLVC action.Â
