(LEBANON, Ill., May 6)--The McKendree University bass fishing team returned to the water Saturday by hosting the McKendree Invitational at Carlyle Lake.
With conditions that were definitely not the best according to McKendree bass fishing coach
Jon Rinderer -- and on a lake that has been very rough over the last five years -- the college anglers showed up at Carlyle Lake and put on a show. Despite dangerously low water levels, extremely dirty water and high winds making navigation very difficult, the guys figured it out.Â
The event was won by the University of Wisconsin-Platteville with an incredible five-bass limit for 19.29 pounds. Second place went to the McKendree team of
Trevor McKinney (Benton, IL/Benton) and
Andrew Althoff (Neoga, IL/Neoga) with a five-fish limit of 14.29 pounds. Right on their heels in third place was the Bearcat duo of
Jacob Louis (Pinckneyville, IL/Pinckneyville) and
Nate Doty (Decatur, IL/Sangamon Valley) with four bass for 13.33 pounds. Southern Illinois University Carbondale netted a fourth-place finish, while McKendree grabbed a third top-five effort as
Tyler Christy (Bolingbrook, IL/Bolingbrook) and
Alec Berens (Channahon, IL/Minooka) placed fifth with two fish for 7.04 pounds. The Bearcats also had the team of
Ethan Jones (Worden, IL/Father McGivney) and
Matt Cavanaugh (St. Louis, MO/Kirkwood) finish eighth at the event with two fish weighing 4.17 pounds.Â
According to Rinderer, the strong finish will help McKendree increase the team's lead in the Bass Pro Shops School of the Year competition.Â
The next event for the McKendree bass fishing team will be the Greenville Open at Lake Shelbyville on May 18.
