HARTWELL, S.C. – The Bearcat Anglers recently competed at the annual ACA Bass Pro Shops Hartwell Slam on March 28th and 29th at Lake Hartwell in South Carolina.
The huge two-day tournament saw 283 boats from approximately 50 schools competing for the win.
Senior Ethan Fields (Breese, Ill.) caught a two-day total of 31.88 for 29th place.
Graduate Jack Stephens (St. Louis, Mo.) had 17.52 on day two for a two-day total of 31.73 and took 31st place.
Graduate Jaxson Freeman (Loda, Ill.) and senior Kai Barnett (Columbiana, Ala.) had to fish with no big motor on day two and were limited to only their trolling motor. Despite the setback, they caught an even better limit of 16.77 and a two-day total of 30.59 for 40th place.
Sophomores Chase Logue (Oreana, Ill.) and Mason Darling (Highland, Ill.) had 23.40 for 152nd place.
Junior Ryan Foster (Columbia, Ill.) and sophomore Zach Widelski (Wheaton, Ill.) placed 166th with a two-day total of 22.26.
Graduate Evan Sutton (Highland, Ill.) and junior Angelo Malek (Lake St. Louis, Mo.) placed 178th with 21.79.
Seniors Zach Pocos (Norwalk, Ohio) and Connor Hall (Jacksonville, Ill.) had a two-day total of 21.08 for 190th.
"I am really proud of this team," said Head Coach Jon Rinderer. "They are a fantastic group of fishermen who continue to be consistent and have very solid finishes. Someone always steps up for a great finish, and several teams usually move up the leaderboard on day two, which is often a difficult task."
