(CHESTERFIELD, Mo., Jan. 18) – The McKendree University men's D2 hockey team captured its fifth win of season over Maryville following a 4-1 victory against the Saints early Saturday evening.
The Bearcats advance to 7-9-1 overall on the season.
Sophomore
Cayden Brilley (Decatur, IL/St. Teresa) scored the first goal of the game with help from junior
Derek Northrop (St. Louis, MO/De Smet Jesuit High School) and sophomore
Trevor Wolf (Wellington, FL/Wellington High School)e. Minutes later freshman Chris Noble scored his first goal of the season with assists from freshman
Noah Scrum (Maryville, IL/Collinsville High School) and Wolfe, collecting his second assist. The Saints countered with their only goal of the game to cut the lead to 2-1 after the first period.
After a scoreless second period, senior
Dmytro Golovko (Kiev, Ukraine/Nashua Christian Academy) pushed the lead back to two. Brilley was credited with an assist. Northrop sealed the game with a goal late into the third period. Sophomore
Joey Bernardini (Chesterfield, MO/Christian Brothers College High School) and junior
Christian Blandina (Glen Carbon, IL/Edwardsville High School) were given assists on the goal.
In goal, Bernardini made 25/26 saves, good for a .961 save percentage.
The Bearcats will be back in action on January 24 at home against Iowa State when they open up a two game series.
