(O'FALLON, Ill., Jan. 25) – The McKendree University men's D2 hockey team was defeated in its season finale against Iowa State 6-2. Before the game, five seniors were celebrated for their last home game as members of the McKendree hockey team.
Wolfgang Davis (Langdon, ND/Billings Bulls NA3HL),
Nathan Gaterman (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh High School),
Nick Gay (Pinedale, WY),
Tony Grasso (O'Fallon, MO/De Smet Jesuit High School), and
Trevor Rieck (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon Township High School) each played their final home game.
With the loss, the Bearcats close the season with a 7-10-2 overall record and 2-10-2 record in Mid-America Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA) play.
McKendree jumped in the scoring column first with a power-play goal from senior
Wolfgang Davis (Langdon, ND/Billings Bulls NA3HL) with passes from juniors
Adam Dempski (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell North HS) and
Riley Brown (Granite City, IL/Granite City High School). Iowa State countered back with two goals to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
After a back and forth second period, the Cyclones netted the only goal, carrying a 3-1 lead into the final period of play.
Iowa State opened the final period with three goals to take a 6-1 lead before junior
Nick Nelson (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell High School) ended the Cyclone run with an assist from senior
Tony Grasso (O'Fallon, MO/De Smet Jesuit High School).
The Bearcats were unable to mount the comeback in the season finale, falling 6-2 to Iowa State.
