(LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 20) – The McKendree University baseball team is slated for four-game road series at Rogers State University in Claremore, Okla., Feb. 21-22. The Bearcats are 1-3 overall on the season.
McKendree opened its season with the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association/ Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Crossover this past weekend in Joplin, Mo. The Bearcats fell in their first three games to Missouri Southern State, 5-2, Washburn University, 9-6, and to Missouri Western State University, 8-7. McKendree picked up its first win of the season against Northwest Missouri State, 3-2.
Connor McCormick (Manteno, IL/Manteno High School),
Bryce Emery (Harrisburg, IL/Harrisburg High School), and
Brendan Hostettler (Chatham,IL/Glenwood High School) lead the team with their batting averages. McCormick is the only Bearcat batting at .400 on the season with one run and two hits. Emery is next with .389 average with 18 at bat attempts for three run and seven hits. Hostettler rounds out the efforts with a .33 average and one hit.
Austin Francis (Dupo, IL/Dupo High School) is also a strong hitter for McKendree with a .308 average.
Following the weekend series, the Bearcats will host Hillside College for its first three-game home series of the season. The first game on Saturday, Feb. 29 will begin at noon with the second one following at 3 p.m. The series will close out with a noon game on Sunday, March 1.
