James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Awards are given each year to the institutions and student-athletes who actively demonstrate exemplary sportsmanship, character, and conduct during competition throughout the year. Individual award winners are selected from each institution's list of nominees compiled by each sport's head coaches.
Mahachi had a successful three-year career with the Bearcats' program. This season, she competed in five meets, including the GLVC Indoor Championships, set two new personal bests and set a new NCAA marker. She placed first and surpassed the NCAA provisional mark by .14m in the triple jump at the Illini Invitational on Jan. 25. In addition, she took first in the triple jump at the Principia Relays and 2020 Hoosier Hills. Mahachi set two new personal bests for the triple jump (12.38m) for First Team All-Conference honors and in the long jump (5.70m) for Second Team All-Conference honors at the 2020 GLVC Indoor Championships.
At the conclusion of the indoor season, Mahachi was named GLVC Women's Field Athlete of the Year, received USTFCCCA All-Region honors for the triple jump, and was named an NSCA All-American Athlete. Mahachi was one of two Bearcats to qualify for the 2020 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, but the remainder of the season was canceled on Mar. 12.
