EMPORIA, Kan. – Women's track & field sophomore Mickayla Sutherland competed in the 400-meter sprint event at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday, May 21st in Emporia, Kansas.
The native of Jamaica ran a 55.51 in the prelims (6th-place in her heat) to earn a 19th-place national finish. She was only ~1.96 behind the last qualifying runner (53.55), as those who were top two in their respective heats or finished with the best two remaining times made the cut for the eight-position group for finals on Saturday.
Out of 22 qualified runners in the 400-meter sprint, Sutherland was one of seven sophomores and one of 10 total underclassmen competing in the event.
This will conclude the 2025-26 season for McKendree University women's track & field. We would like to congratulate the team on a great season and give a big thank you to all those who followed all year long!
