No.2 Women’s Wrestling to Compete in North Central Quad Duals

(LEBANON, Ill. – Jan. 29) – The No.2 McKendree University women's wrestling team will compete in their second quad dual of the season, traveling to Naperville, IL on Sunday, Jan. 31.

The North Central College Duals will feature No.2 McKendree, No.5 North Central College, No.13 University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and Adrian College.

Sam Schmitz's team is undefeated going into this weekend's duals. McKendree went 3-0 in the King University Duals on Jan. 19. They defeated No.7 Colorado Mesa 37-7, No.3 Emmanuel College 41-5, and No.4 King University 25-15. Four Bearcats went undefeated in multiple matchups on the day, including No.2 Felicity Taylor (Spillville, IA/South Winneshiek), Cameron Guerin (Yakima, WA/A.C. Davis), No.1 Emma Bruntil (Acme, WA/Mount Baker Senior), and No.1 Sydnee Kimber (Sitka, AK/Mt. Edgecumbe ).

Taylor's highest ranked opponent was No.6 Kasey Baynon of Emmanuel, who she defeated by pin. The junior has an 8-4 record heading into this weekend. Guerin took down all three opponents, including two being nationally ranked. Guerin defeated No.3 Emily Se of Emmanuel and No.4 Phoenix Dubose of King, both by pin. The freshman has a 7-1 record going into this weekend. Bruntil also defeated all three opponents, including two nationally ranked wrestlers. She defeated No.8 Felicity Bryant of Emmanuel by tech fall and No.3 Ashlynn Ortegy by decision. The sophomore has a 3-1 record going into this weekend. Kimber defeated all three of her opponents by pin, including over No.3 Christina Santoyo of Emmanuel. The junior has a 3-0 record going into this weekend.

No.5 North Central College is 0-1 this season, after dropping their first competition to Tiffin University, 17-31. The Cardinals closed out their inaugural year as a program, placing sixth in the 2020 Cliff Keen National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championship (NCWWC), with five All-Americans, and captured five regular-season tournament championship titles.

Adrian College has competed in four events prior to Sunday's quad duals. Most recently the Bulldogs had six wrestlers finish first in their weight classes at the Adrian Open Invitational on Sunday afternoon.

No.13 University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point are 0-1 going into Sunday's matchups. The dropped a close dual against Lakeland University, 15-18, Sunday afternoon. There, three wrestlers were able to score points for their team, including two victories by pin and one tech fall.
