DAVENPORT, Iowa – The McKendree University women's bowling eam finished 14th out of 34 teams as they recorded a total of 8,248 pins at this past weekend's 21st-Annual Leatherneck Classic held here at Big River Bowling.
McKendree began the tournament six traditional games on Saturday as they knocked down a total of 5,607 pins to sit in 10th place as a team. Junior
Brianna Evans (Topeka, Kan./Seaman) led the way for the Bearcats as she placed 20th on the individual player standings as she knocked down a total of 1,204 pins and averaged 200.7 per game. Recorded a high score of 232 in the fourth game and also recorded a 224 in the second game and a 200 in the fifth game.
In addition to Evans, sophomore
Rhian Dobinson (Farnborough, England/The Warvell School) was the No. 2 Bearcat bowler as she tallied a total of 1,169 pins and averaged 194.8 per game. Dobinson's high was 245 in the final game, while she also had a 207 in the third game and a 204 in the first game.
Freshman
Lexus Petrich (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) played in four of the five games and averaged 187.8 per game, including a 205 in the fourth game, while junior
Jessica Crowley (St. Mary's, Ga./Life University) averaged 177.4 per game as she had a high of 222 in the third game.
Following the traditional games on Saturday, the Bearcats and the other 33 teams combined in Baker games and totaled 2,641 pins in the 16 games, but did not qualify for the bracket play quarterfinals. McKendree averaged 165.1 pins and had a high of 214 in the fourth game.
Wichita State finished as the top team in terms to pinfall as they tallied 9,336 pins, but the Shockers were upset 2-0 in the first match of the bracket play quarterfinals by No. 8 seed William Penn. Mount Mercy, who was the No. 2 seeded team in bracket play, won the team title as they defeated William Penn in the finals, two games to one (152-181, 280-152, 201-186).
The McKendree women's bowling team will compete at the McKendree Match Games on Nov. 27-28 at the St. Clair Bowling Center in Fairview Heights, Ill.
