McKendree Track Programs Record Four Top Finishes at UIndy Winter Meet

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - McKendree University's men's and women's track field programs competed here today at the UIndy Winter Break Meet at the Athletics and Recreation Center. 

At Saturday's meet the women competed in nine events and the men competed in seven events. Overall, the Bearcats recorded 15 Top 5 finishes including four first place finishes, with the women having three first place finishes and seven Top 5 finishes and the men had one first place finish and eight Top 5 finishes. 

On the women's side, sophomore Kiara Spates (Markham, Ill./Thornton Township) took home first place in the triple jump with a leap of 10.81 meters (35-5.75), while placing third in the long jump with her top jump being 4.98 meters (16-4.5), and Spates took fourth place in the high jump with a jump of 1.40 meters (4-7). 

Junior Sanique Rose (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Iowa Western CC) won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.90 seconds. The final first place finisher on the women's side was junior Ndia Johnson (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) as she won the weight throw with a throw of 16.36 meters (53-8.25). 

The other Top 5 finishers on the women's side were senior Madelyn Tepe (Venedy, Ill./Okawville) as she placed third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.81 and junior Madelyn Daiber (Pocahontas, Ill./Greenville) was fifth in the shot put with a throw of 11.34 meters (37-2.5). 

On the men's side, senior Dontea Jones (Centralia, Ill./Centralia) won the triple jump with a NCAA Division II provisional mark of 13.45 meters (44-1.5). Jones was also third in the long jump with a leap of 5.73 meters (18-9.75). 

Sophomore Malachi Carroll (Omaha, Neb./Iowa Western CC) was the runner-up in the 60-meter dash running another provisional time of 6.85 seconds.  

The other Top 5 finishes were sophomore Seth Kasinger (Pekin, Ill./Pekin Community) and senior Devin Caswell (New Athens, Ill./New Athens) as Kasinger was second in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:07.21 while Caswell was fifth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:14.6. Graduate student Demetrius Walker (Commerce, Ga./Emmanuel College) took fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.85 seconds while freshman Kai Toolie (Mascoutah, Ill./Mascoutah) was fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.99 seconds. 

The final Top 5 finish was the 4x400 meter relay team that featured Carroll, Jones, senior Meshar Rogers-Prince (Apopka, Fla./Apopka) and Toolie as they took fourth place with a time of 3:56.08. 

The Bearcats will return to action on Friday, Jan. 28 at the Principia Relays in Elsah, Ill. and will conclude the Principia Relays on Saturday, Jan. 29.
