KANSAS CITY, Mo. - McKendree University men's soccer senior forward
James Stone added another honor to his career as a Bearcat, earning a place on the United Soccer Coaches Midwest Region second team, which was announced by USC on Wednesday afternoon. The forward was the sole member of the all-region team for McKendree following a phenomenal fall campaign.
Stone, a native of Eastbourne, England, led a Bearcat attack which outscored its opponents, 29-24, over the duration of the fall while starting all 17 contests for McKendree. The Bede's Sixth Form College-product, Stone, fired 10 goals in the fall on 18 shots on frame. He also sent 48.6-percent of his shots on goal (37 total shots) and dished out one assist to total 21 points on the year. Stone added the USC regional honors after also being a unanimous selection to the Great Lakes Valley Conference First Team in early November. He ranked second in total points (21) and total goals (10) in the GLVC during the fall while he also amassed four game-winning scores. Stone's season highlight came during the regular season finale at UMSL where the forward fired two goals in just 38 minutes of action, including the winning goal.
The United Soccer Coaches second team honors for the senior forward was McKendree's sole post-season award after three Bearcats earned a place on All-league teams.
McKendree men's soccer ended its season after a tough matchup with the third-seeded Maryville Saints in the GLVC tournament. The first round league tournament matchup went to penalty kicks to decide a winner, which the Saints won 10-9. The Bearcats will be back on the pitch in the spring for a set of spring matchups which are yet to be announced.
