(Lebanon, Ill. – Feb. 18) – The McKendree University men's and women's track & field teams travel to Elsah, Ill. to compete in a TRXC Timing Opportunity Meet No. 3 on Friday, Feb. 19.
The meet is hosted by Principia College. This is the third time this season McKendree will compete at Principia.
The teams who will participate in Friday's meet are Principia, Iowa Wesleyan, Fontbone Westminster, the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis, Missouri Baptist University, Mineral Area College, William Woods University, and Great Lakes Valley Conference foes Missouri S&T and Maryville University.
Last time the Bearcats competed was last Friday at the TRXC Timing Opportunity Meet No. 2. Both the men's and women's teams placed second out of 10 teams.
On the men's side, some key athletes to keep an eye out for include twin brothers
Eugene Omalla (Tororo, Uganda/Rift Valley Academy) and
Jaimie Omalla (Tororo, Uganda/Rift Valley Academy).
The Omalla twins rank in the top ten of the Great Lakes Valley Conference in the 400-meter dash (Jaimie ranks No. 4 at 48.48 seconds, Eugene ranks No. 8 at 49.61).
Jaimie Omalla's (Tororo, Uganda/Rift Valley Academy) 400-meter dash time ranks just outside the top 14 in the NCAA. The top 14 times in every event qualify for the NCAA National Championships in Birmingham, Ala.
On the women's side,
Mya Watson-Blake (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon Township) ranks third in the GLVC in high jump at 5-feet 3 ¾ inches, and sixth in the long jump at 17-feet 5 ¼ inches. Azlynn Sherodd-Butler also ranks fifth in the GLVC in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.22 seconds.
