The McKendree University softball team travelled to Quincy, Ill. this weekend and swept a doubleheader against the Quincy Hawks.

The Bearcats took the first game 5-0 and won the second game 4-1.

Game One
Abby Behlmann (O'Fallon, MO/Liberty) got things started off for the Bearcats with a bang in game one with a home run from Abby Behlmann (O'Fallon, MO/Liberty). It was her first home run of the season.

In the seventh inning, Caitlyn Lowry (St. Louis, MO/Notre Dame) would add some insurance runs with a bases-clearing three RBI double to extend the lead to 4-0. Jenny Homann (Freeburg, IL/Freeburg) would add an RBI with a sacrifice fly to score Lowry to wrap up the scoring in the opening game.

Both teams would finish the game with six hits, while Quincy had one error.

In the fifth inning, the long ball parade would continue when Lowry and Homann would each add solo home runs to extend the Bearcats lead to 4-1.

The Bearcats finished the game with nine hits to Quincy's seven. Quincy had three errors.

Leading the way for the Bearcats in game two was Lowry who went three-for-four with two singles, and a solo home run.

Miranda Gajewski (Kronenwetter, WI/D.C. Everest) started the game for the Bearcats and also pitched a complete game. She pitched all seven innings, giving up one earned run on seven hits and struck out five batters.

Coaches Quote
"We came out today and put two good games together offensively and in the circle. I was happy to see some power in our at bats with the home runs as well," head coach Ashley Fleming said.

Player Quote
"I went back to the drawing board this week and worked on some things I was struggling with. My focus is to set the table and then my team does their job of bringing me in. We can't win ballgames without everyone and we're all buying into our roles right now which is fun," Lowry said. "Each week we're playing better and coming together as a team. We get along well with each other and I think that's showing up on the field. Now our focus is next weekend and to keep it going."
