Softball Picked Up Its 20th Win Of The Season With Sweep Over Missouri S&T

The McKendree University softball team picked up its 20th win of the season in a sweep against Missouri S&T on Sunday at Bearcat Field.
 
The Bearcats won the first game 10-0 in a five-inning mercy rule and won the second game 4-0. 
 
Game One
 
The Bearcats would put up nine runs in the first inning. The inning started with a two-run home run from Jenny Homann and ended with a Paige Hayden two-RBI double. Homann's home run would be her fifth of the season.
 
Caitlyn Lowry would add a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning. It would be her second home run of the season. 
 
Ellie Quaethem started on the mound for the Bearcats. She pitched in three innings, gave up zero earned runs on two hits, and struck out three batters. Her record improves to 9-4 on the season. 
 
McKenzie Pirtle pitched the final two innings. She gave up no hits in her two innings of pitching. 
 
Game Two
 
Miranda Gajewski got the Bearcats on the board with a three-run home run in the third inning. It would be her fourth home run of the season. 
 
Gajewski would add an insurance run in the fifth inning with an RBI double scoring Lowry.
 
Gajewksi started on the mound for the Bearcats. She pitched in four innings, gave up zero earned runs off two hits, and struck out six batters. Quaethem would pitch the remaining three innings, allowed one hit and struck out five batters.

"We came out and had a really good first inning to jump out on top. I felt like several players had good days at the plate, and all three of our pitchers gave us good innings," head coach Ashley Fleming said.
 
Up Next
 
The McKendree softball will be back in action on Saturday, April 24 against Maryville University in St. Louis, Mo. The doubleheader will start at 11 a.m.
