CHESTERFIELD, Mo. -- The McKendree Men's D2 Hockey team suffered their first lost of the season to the hands of Maryville University, by a score of 8-1 here Saturday evening. The loss puts the Bearcats at 1-1 on the season, as both teams split the opening season series. Goaltender Scout Stalcup of the Saints got his first win of the season, as
Adam Siek of the Bearcats took the loss.
The first period saw up & down action, and Siek stood tall for the Bearcats in goal, stopping all 16 shots he faced. Neither team yielded a goal in the first period. In the second period the game opened up early, as Josh Salmon found the back of the net at 4:06. A little over two minutes later the Bearcats tied it up 1-1 with
Cayden Brilley picking up the Bearcats only goal of the game. The tie lasted a little over 5 minutes as Michael Lane of the Saints pocketed the first of his two goals of the game at 10:21 of the second period. It was also the first of two power play goals for the Saints in the game. Then late in the second, Luke Felts extended the Saints lead to 3-1 at 17:31.Â

Joey Bernardini replaced
Adam Siek, who was injured at the end of the second period. The third period saw 5 goals, all coming off of Saints sticks. Defensemen Ryan Gridley widened the lead at 4-1 over 2 minutes in. Then at 7:13 Michael Lane picked up his second of the game to make it 5-1. Just 73 seconds later, Alex Chiodini got the Saints second power play goal to make it 6-1.Â
The Saints tacked on two more goals late in the third period by Kyle Bracko and Tim Rye. The Saints went 2-7 on the power play, whereas the Bearcats went 0-8 on the man advantage.
The Bearcats will go on the road for their next series of games against Bradley University on Friday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. & Oct. 2nd at 4 p.m.Â
