O'FALLON, Ill. – The McKendree University women's swimming and diving team opened its 2022 second semester schedule here Friday afternoon by winning nine of 16 events in a dual meet against eighth-ranked Lindenwood at the McKendree Rec Plex Pool.
The Lions won the dual meet by a score of 152-135 over the 16th-ranked Bearcats.
In Friday's meet, three Bearcat swimmers and divers won multiple events, including senior
Hallie Dixon (Jeffersonville, Ind./Jeffersonville), freshman
Caitlyn Sligh (Tomball, Texas/Tomball Memorial) and freshman
Karley Sonnenberg (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) each winning two events.
Sonnenberg's two event wins came in the 50 freestyle (23.61), 100 freestyle (52.09), while Dixon won the 1,650 freestyle (18:15.69) and the 500 freestyle (5:21.61) and Sligh took home first place in the 100 backstroke (1:00.00) and 200 backstroke (2:10.17). Both of Sonnenberg's times were NCAA 'B' times.
Other event winners for McKendree on Friday were sophomore
Regan Gubera (Jamestown, Ind./Western Boone) in 1-meter diving (247.94), graduate student
Molly Smalley (Windhoek, Namibia/Plymouth College) in the 200 IM (2:12.42) and sophomore
Vanda Voroshazy (Herceghalom, Hungary/Saint Joseph) in the 100 butterfly (59.42).
Both of McKendree's relay teams each finished second on Friday as the 400 medley relay team of Sonnenberg, Voroshazy, junior
Grace Credit (La Grange Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township) and senior
Abigail Rumpp (Knoxville, Tenn./L&N STEM Academy) recorded a time of 3:59.92 to place second, while the 200 freestyle relay team of Dixon, Sonnenberg, Sligh and freshman
Sarah Gromley (Las Cruces, N.M./Las Cruces) posted a second place time of 1:39.17.
The Bearcats are Gromley (1:59.61), Voroshazy (1:59.77) and Smalley (2:01.48) finish second, third and fifth respectively in the 200 freestyle, while Credit, freshman
Presley Heitzmann (Magnolia, Texas/Magnolia) and junior
Emily Drabick (Barto, Pa./Florida Southern) recorded times of 1:08.38, 1:08.82 and 1:10.66 to finish second, third and fifth respectively in the 100 breaststroke.
Gubera was also second in 3-meter diving as she recorded a score of 246.90, while junior
Andrea Menard-Cordoba (Montreal, Quebec/College St. Ann) was third in both the 1 and 3-meter diving.
Smalley also posted a second place finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:28.09.
The Bearcats has four swimmers place in the Top 8 in the 200 IM as along with Smalley's first place finish, Voroshazy was second with a time of 2:14.60, while Dixon was fifth with a time of 2:16.15 and Heitzmann was eighth with a time of 2:20.38.
McKendree will return to the pool next Friday, Jan. 21 as the Bearcats host UMSL for an 11 a.m. Senior Day meet at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex.
